WHere?

Where have I been?

My lap top most likely has a virus so I have not been able to post in a while, but I feel that is a good thing because I have just been enjoying summer with my family!!!! My friends Mike and Mike have tried to fix it for me but with no luck so I will have to take it in.

I will take my time fixing the computer and post when I can.

We are having a great summer enjoying each other, friends and family.....Hope you all are too.

Take time to enjoy life!

Sophie Wei

Sophie Wei you are so much fun!!! Your little personality is adorable, you make us laugh! As you can see here by the photos your facial expressions still keep us on our toes.

It is also funny when when we talk to you about doing things/activities you always reply back, "Monday." I guess you like Mondays??

Maybe This Time

Here I go again....for the sixth or so time.....I have started a new goal for working out at least 16 times in four weeks....I also set a goal of 65 miles....

Maybe the 6th time is the charm :)

No really, not having to work will help. I am hoping to get back in the groove!

One Year Ago Today

Sophie Shi Wei, One year ago today you walked into our lives and it has been a blessing since! I will never forget arriving at your Orphanage. It was big and grand. I could pinch myself because I could not believe I was going to be a Mommy again.

I have so many photos that I love from that day. Here are a few of my favorites.

Holding you for the first time. You were so tiny and full of life.
Your Daddy was in love already.
We were blessed to meet one of your Ayi's.
And two of your good friends.
You meet your big Sister Simone (Jei Jei). You meet your Grandma Prater.
Over the last year you have brought us so much joy.

You turn three years old.You have surgery to repair your acetabulum on your pelvis by using a bone graft from your femur and had your femur back in place (hip displasia.)
(1. Right peri-acetabular Pemberton osteotomy.
2. Right proximal femur shortening osteotomy.
3. Right hip capsulorrhaphy.
4. Application of right hip spica cast. 6 weeks.)

Surgery was ruff but we made it through.
We learned that Popsicles make you happy and that you like them.
You attend preschool full time in January with Sister Simone because both Mommy and Daddy are at work full time.
You meet lots of your family and friends.
You are so silly.
You and your Sister love each other so much.

You make us all laugh.
You are so sweet and everyone likes you and you love chewing gum.

You like to call your self "a princess."

You prefer skirts over dresses, no socks, silly faces and enjoy "hitting" anyone or objects as you walk by.

You love to Dance. You tell us that you want to do Ballet "with out Mommy and Daddy" and "NO Crying."
At the end of April we learned from your Surgeon that your acetabulum is progressing and growing. The blood supply to your pelvis and femur area look good. Your limb difference is 1.5 cm difference. We receive a lift insert to put inside your gym shoes to help you walk/run. It does help you and keeps you from falling down so much. You no longer need to wear the Dennis Brown Bar for your club feet therapy. We do not have to go back to the surgeon for one year unless we have any concerns. We will not have to have surgery to have your hardware(metal plate and four screws at the top of the femur) taken out. Our Surgeon said that if it was his kid he would leave it in. The only time it would be a concern is if you brake your leg in that spot and when you go through the metal detector in the airport. What a blessing.

Sophie Wei below last week. She painted her face all "BY MYSELF!"
I will never forget these two photos above. They mean more as time goes by.

If you look closely you are skwirmming out of my arms. It was time to go and we wanted to snap a few more photos. As I set you down you went back to the hallway behind me. It is where all of your friends were due to the earthquake a few weeks prior.

You cried and I teared up as I picked you up again.

You did not want to go. You liked us but we were strangers.

We were taking you away from your only home you have ever known.

Your friends and toys.

Your Ayi's.

Your food and smells.

Your language.

Your bed and your school.

Your Homeland.

We hope you always know how much we wanted you and prayed for you.

Your our sweet little girl.

We will never forget your family in China and your heritage.

We promise to take you back as often as we can.

I love these photos my Mom took right after we left the Orphanage. We were trying to go slow and comfort Sophie Wei the best we could. Letting her grieve.
Following her lead.

Today I am remembering your story and ours.

Our family coming together.

We love you so much Sophie Shi Wei.

Love Forever, Mommy

New Beginnings

Time for me to start taking care of myself again, trying to make time to eat right and work out. Things have been crazy busy around here and stressful so now is the time. Rick's track season ended and now he has no practice this week so here I go....School is very busy but I need the exercise so I de-stress and feel better.

It has been since August 2008 that I have been in good shape and have gained around 34 pounds since then, ughhhggg! Thanks to some friends (Andrea M, Jill, Kris and Mandy) I signed up for a half marathon in October so I better get moving and eating better.

I thought I would start my mileage goal a bit lower so I can obtain it and try to work out four days a week.

Here goes, I have my IPod loaded with new motivated songs....thanks facebook friends.

I can do it.

UPDATE- I just finished my work out and tried to upload my IPOD to Nike but it did some thing crazy, lost my work out and says my last work out was July of 2008!!! I love technology, it motivates me in this case but other times makes no sense!! At least I did not lose my tunes! Double UGHHHGGG!

My Little Love

Simone I just love it how you always know when I need a hug, kiss, handmade piece of art work or a kind word! You know when I am sad, happy.
You know me so well and I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

You can read me easy when others can't and you are only five years old.

I am blessed to have you as my Daughter.

You are my little love and I thank God for you every day!

I LOVE You Xu Xu!

Under The Deep Blue Sea

video videoWe had a fun evening, eating outside and listening to the girls singing and telling stories!! Here is a song they learned at preschool that goes along with their monthly theme. I love how Simone and Rick are helping Sophie Wei with her song.

As you can see Sophie Wei likes to run away and see if you would follow her. Simone loves to sing.

I love their messy faces!!!

Another video is of Simone just answering some random questions. Seriously we are not going to China soon to bring home a baby brother....If it was up to Simone we would be. She keeps working us :) video

Here We GO AGAIN

Sophie Wei just finished a round of Penicillin for a Strep Infection on Monday evening because her Teachers had suggested that she may of had a bladder infection. When we went in we found out it was a strep infection not a bladder infection. She was having a lot of accidents and going to the potty a lot.

In the mean time Sophie Wei has been cranky and have accidents. It has been difficult to drop her off at preschool for about a week or so now which is so hard on me because I have to work and I just want to take care of her. I was thinking that she may of been feeling like the rest of us, over whelmed what has been going on with our family (Rick has been coaching track = late track meets, family business, My Mom has been going through some medical stuff, etc.).

Then on Wednesday she had an accident in her car seat just as I transferred her from Rick's truck into our car for Becca to take care of her for the afternoon.

Yesterday I received an email from her teacher letting me know that she has ad some accidents and after going to the bathroom she has to go again with in 10 minutes. In the morning before school she did not want to get dressed and had a few melt downs therefore making me late to our staff meeting, this got my mind ticking of what was going on with her????? When I received the email from her teacher at lunch I called and got an evening appointment with a doctor. (Happy about that because Kaiser no longer has urgent care. I actually like this system better because I can come in in the evening and have a scheduled appointment which works well for stuff like this that comes up. I was also able to get lab work done for her which was helpful.)

I am sharing this with you all because I am learning about this bladder thing. Frequent urination/accidents, in Sophie's case she says her tummy aches and crankiness could be a sign of a bladder infection.

Last night we learned that the Penicillin she took did not work much/if at all and what she had turned into a bladder infection and now strep in her mouth. She is now Cephalexin which the doctor said should take care of the problem. I also learned from this doctor that her culture from two weeks ago also showed some staff infection which would of been good to know so I could of came back in to get this retested sooner but I had no clue. Lesson learned, call in to verify lab results! They told me that they would call me if it was negative and have her stop the penicillin but since I did not hear from them I just assumed it was positive, which it was but the staff showed up. Why is this all important because the girls should not bath together when she had these two things so Simone does not get it. She told me I should bleach the bath after Sophie Wei but hopefully Simone has not gotten it yet since she has not had any symptoms.

So we hope Sophie Wei's little buds, Emma, Sara and Holt don't catch the strep. Their parents know and I also called the preschool.

Lessons learned.

My friends Casey, Heidi and Betty just came to pick up the Taco Soup I made for the Staff Appreciation lunch today. So nice of them to help me out. As they leave Sophie Wei says, "love her." Simone stays busy at her art table. Then we have to run inside for Sophie Wei to go to the bathroom which she has gone now four times in 30 minutes!!!!

I also want to give a shout out to my teaching partner Paula because she is helping me out big time today. Since I did not know I would be out of work today she is helping me with my sub so I did not have to go into work early this morning. As of last night I did not have a sub which she said she would help out with the best she could(that is also hard on me when there is no sub but Casey just told me there was someone there this morning, FEWWW!).....SO SWEET. I am going to miss her next year because she will be teaching half time Kindergarten in another building!! She has been with me through a lot of what we have gone through lately and I don't know what I will do with out her next year!!!! I am going to be lonely with out her!!! You rock Paula!

Kindergarten Orientation

Today Simone went to Kindergarten Orientation. I can't believe it is time already for her to do this.

When we arrived at school Simone started getting upset because she wanted to go with Auntie Becca who was taking care of Sophie Wei and did not want to go to the Kindergarten Orientation because she is "shy and does not know anyone besides Matthew." She also had it in her mind that Sophie Wei was going to the Hettinger's but since Reagan was sick we had a last minute change of plans. Simone is a planner.

We did have some time with her in the cafeteria before we had to go into the gym for the parents portion. Since I also work at the school I had to do a brief speech about PE so I was also trying to mentally prep for that. Talking in front of a large group of adults is a lot harder for me than teaching the children ;)

Simone was upset when we went in and cried a lot when we left her so we could go into the gym for the parents informational time. But my teacher friends told me she settled down after a while.

Change and being with people she does not know very well are hard for her but she was a trooper.

After we were done with the Principals presentation we were able to pick up our kids and then head to the school bus for a BUS RIDE!! Simone loved this part.

Here is our Little "Prune Hill Penguin In Training". (She made this cute little hat while we were in the meeting. Simone said, "they did some other things too." )

Not so shy after she gets home.

Silly girl.
Simone we are so proud of you today!!
It was hard for you to be with new people but you met some new friends and we know you will like Kindergarten after you get use to it.

I am also very excited to have Simone going to school where I work. I love my school and the staff!!! She is going to receive such a great education here. The next 6 years of her schooling will be SO Much FUN because our school is filled with so many FUN teachers that do exciting things.

An Update on My MOM

Today I went to the hospital with Robert, Simone and Sophie Wei because my Mom needed to have an angiogram done to check out her heart.

After a very long day we find out that she has no blockage!! What a relief. Her breast tissue was a cause for the abnormal Nuclear and EKG. This happens often in some Women but because of her up coming knee surgery we needed to know for sure what was going on. The only way to know for sure is to have an angiogram. Now she can have her much needed knee replacement.

Simone and Sophie Wei were so GOOD all day. The greeters that were in charge of keeping us updated on my Mom's status gave us compliments all day on their behavior. We left our house at 6:45 am and arrived home around 5:30pm.

The girls met a new friend Mariah who's Grandpa was having a Quad Bi Pass.

After being in the hospital all day and hearing other peoples story's it reminds me how precious life is!!

I am thankful for my Husband and Brother Jason for being there for me!! Love you guys!!

Happy Birthday today to my Cousin Shanna.
