Cami

Cami was so sweet to let Simone decorate the cake she made all of us for dinner. So while Cami, Chris and I cleaned up after the baby shower Simone got to frost and decorate the cake. She was having so much fun!

We are so thankful for Cami and Chris opening up their home for Collins baby shower and then turning around to organize a nice dinner for all of our friends that evening. Thanks for the great food and spoiling us!!! They have so many fun things for the kids to play with at their house. It was so much fun to visit with them, Wendy, Paul, Bethanie, Carrie, Brad, Dan, Marci, Kelly, Guy and all of the kidos. I know how much work it is to have functions like this at your home. You guys are the best!! Thanks for the memorable day! We treasure these moments as we don't get to come home as often as we use to.

Happy girls!!

Baby Collins Baby Shower 2/2/08

I am so glad that Collin was such a good sport and did not mind me taking so many photos of him this weekend!!

On 2/2/08 Amy, Cami and I held a baby shower for Baby Collin at Cami's house. We were also blessed with help from Wendy, Bethanie, Marci and Anne. I am so thankful for such great friends. We had such a wonderful time celebrating Collin!! I am such a lucky girl to still have such good friends in my life!! Thanks Amy and Cami for all of your help planning the day. You two rock. Amy, Windy and I.

Here I am with our beautiful girl. We had such a great time while we were back home, where both Rick and I grew up! We also got to enjoy my in-laws and my parents. My inlaws took us out for a yummy lunch at our favorite Chinese Restaurant!!!I am so thankful for my life!

Here is Simone facinated by Cami and Chris's thingamagigger...Not sure what it is called?? I want one. You just touch if once and the magnet makes a design in the sand.

Thankful

This week I am thankful for:

  • My husbands 35th birthday! For the phone calls from family that he received. For our family and friends that could make it for a small birthday celebration. You mean the world to us and your thoughtfulness is appreciated. Thanks everyone for appreciating my Chili :O) (Photos to come later. I am almost caught up.)
  • For sick days! I am thankful that my job lets you take a sick day to care for a sick child. Simone is not feeling well at all.
  • Thankful that Simone took a very long nap today because she needed it!
  • Our visit with Cami and Chris on Saturday.
  • My brother. I appreciate his effort for us to remain close. For his phone calls and long talks. I miss you so much and your family! Congrats to you and Andrea on your new house. You will love it and we can't wait to come visit.
  • For our local Panda Group (families who have all adopted from China.) For the time that Simone and I got to spend at Tracy and Anna's house on Monday. Since I work full time we do not get to meet with this group often but when we can we love it! It is so nice to share stories, learn from others and just talk. Thankful for my cell phone as I got lost on my way due to Map Quest, so I was glad that I could call Tracy and find my way. I am also thankful for them listening to me vent about finding a Chinese Activity for Simone.
  • My teaching Partner Paula. God put us together "O)
  • My life. I am thankful for my life and my health.
  • My husband and inspiration. Thanks for keeping me motivated to continue this fitness quest. It is so much more fun to do this together!
  • My car. It keeps on ticking.
  • Auntie Gloria. You are so important to us. We hope you FEEL MUCH better soon!! Sorry for all of the pain you are going through.
  • My Uncle Richard because he chooses to use his vacation time to come and visit family!! I also enjoyed having lunch with him and my Mom on Tuesday before they headed back to the beach. It is so good to spend time with family.
  • My Mom. Mom's are the best!!!!
I have so much to be thankful for.

These photos were taken on November 12th, 2007. Simone thought it would be fun to use the bottom of her cheer leading skirt for a dress since it was big enough. I thought is was cute.

Thankful

(This is from November 15th, 2007)
Here is Curtis and Simone having fun in my classroom, the GYM where I teach every day. I am so thankful to work in such a nice building with such a great well rounded staff. I am so thankful that I have a wonderful job to go to every day so I can make a difference in the life of children.

This unit is called Mail Town USA. The gym is set as a fitness obstacle course. While getting a fun work out that focuses on community the children also get to work on their writing skills by writing post cards to teachers, staff members, friends or family members. You can see in the above photo the Post Office building where the children can write their post cards and then mail them. They also receive mail from the above people at the end of PE class.

Simone asking Curtis for more rides around the race track where there is a Chevron gas station, race car ramp (you can barley see it on the top left of this photo) and trampoline jumping area. Curtis is driving the Police Car. After police officers arrest people they get to take them to Jail.

I am so Thankful for Curtis. Curtis is a former student of mine and the son
of my friend Andrea at work.

Curtis comes in every now and then just to say Hi and help me out. He is so sweet and very helpful as he knows about my expectations and how I run my classes.

On this particular day he was so helpful!! I had an extra busy day as I had rescheduled a class during one of my prep times so I did not have much time to do the things I needed to do that day but Curtis came to the rescue.

(The night before this day I needed to make a cake for my friends bridal shower, Karen. So that night I made a bunt cake with homemade Chocolate icing, thanks Melissa for the recipe, but when I took the cake out of the pan it fell apart. By this time it was 9:30 and I did not feel like going to the store to purchase some more ingredients. I thought I could hide the issue with the frosting but Rick told me no and I had to agree because it did not look Yummy.
I just thought I would ask my friend Alona if she needed me to go to the store to purchase a cake on my lunch I would but if we had enough stuff then I would not need to. After I talked to her that morning it did not seem like we needed one so I worked on other things during my lunch. Then by the end of the day we decided we needed more.........but Simone would be coming after school to go with me to the shower and she was not in the mood to go looking for a cake at the store....So during my quick brake I called my husband to see if he could go and pick one up for me. He said he could. Then my friend Jeni said she could do it, so I said OK thanks. So off she went to get a Cake. But I forgot I needed to tell Rick not to pick up one. I could not get a hold of him and it was time for me to go back and teach. I thought I was going to have two very nice cakes. This is when Curtis came into play.)

Curtis walks in the gym to say Hi. I said Oh, Curtis I am so glad to see you! Could you please call Rick on his cell phone (Rick is currently his Fitness/Health teacher) and let him know that Jeni is going to get a cake so you don't need to. Well Curtis could not get a hold of him. I asked him if he could keep trying and he did. To make this long story even shorter we finally got a hold of Rick so we did not end up with two cakes.

Then after school came and I still had not wrapped the gifts for the party so Curtis played with Simone in the gym so I could get that done. He was so patient and kind to Simone. He really did no mind her bossing him around, telling him to SLOW DOWN, GO FASTER!!!

I am so thankful for Curtis. Thankful for a former student coming by to say Hello and for helping me from time to time.

Simone getting a little braver. Behind them you can see the Fire Station. here they get to work out like a fireman/women. They can climb or swing on the ropes or jump rope. Ah, that was fun. Thanks Curtis!
As you can see the yellow lists that I made, which are on the top left of this photo, the students have many staff members that they can write too. All staff members end of getting mail. It is amazing. I love their sincerity when they write their post cards and I see how many amazing staff members I work with that touch so many children.
This is one of my favorite units that I do.

All of these buildings were made by Cheryl Richey and her husband. Cheryl is now retired but use to work in the same school district as me and was a valued member of our PE Team. It was so nice of her when I came to this school district for her to "share" and so willing for me to take a spin off of her Scooter Town idea. I am also thankful for Amy who took her place because she is so patient with me driving to her school and setting aside the equipment for me to borrow and then when I need to return it she spends extra time putting it back away for me.
I also want to thank my husband and teaching partner Paula for staying late on a Friday evening so we could set this up. And for Simone hanging in there while we do this. I try not to come in all the time but she does spend extra time at school so I am
thankful that she can handle it now.

I am thankful for so many things. I will never get them all down in writing but I would like to try and reflect on positive things in my life as I am thankful for my every day and my teaching plays a big role in who I am and what I love doing.

Thankful

I have a lot to be thankful for this week:

  • I was pretty sick for 5 days before thanksgiving. My body felt like I was ran over by a truck and I could barely move. Then my throat was very sore. I went to the Doctors on day 3 and I found out I had strep so they gave me medicine. Usually when I am sick I still can function and go to work but not this time. I am so thankful it is over and glad the medicine worked.
  • I am also glad that another teacher friend, Beth, at worked filled in for me and then my principal covered her class so my classes would not miss PE. They could not find a sub for me because it was a couple of days before Thanksgiving.
  • Thanksgiving was wonderful. My in-laws cooked for us and spoiled us. We also got to spend time with Rick's cousin and his family. We had such a nice time even though we came home early.
  • Carter calling Simone to tell her he went "P" on the toilet. I love it that my sister in law and brother keep us in the loop. I miss them and wish we lived closer!
  • My Dad's phone calls....He cracks me up. I love him so.
  • My Mom's mail. She always sends us a card for any holiday, just like my Grandma use to. When Simone opened her mail from her she said, "God Loves You Grandma Prater." Rick and I both laughed because that is usually what her cards will say.
  • I love teaching. My assembly today went so well at school. I had about eleven teachers who volunteered to help me and be a part of the Teachers Relay Team vs. the Students Relay Team. We did a shuttle run, flexibility wand race, and then buddy walkers (like walking on skis with a partner). My friend Jeni even wore the Penguin Mascot Costume for all of the relays. It was so MUCH FUN! My checks were hurting from smiling and laughing so much. The kids did great and so did the teachers.
  • My husband. For your support, unconditional love and for putting up the Christmas lights on our house.
  • Cami and Amy because they are helping me plan a shower for our friend Windy!!!!!
  • Rachel and Mike for the McCormick and Schmidt (never spell that correctly???) gift certificate for dinner in down town Portland and for volunteering to watch Simone.
  • Our Neighbors, Especially Craig/Lisa/Ally/Abbie, Brad and Missy, Rockie/Rachel/ Caroline and Baby Joe. We are also very lucky that we have just have had two new neighbors move in and we are blessed that they are nice, kind people who take care of their home. Good neighbors make a neighborhood feel safe and fun.
  • Simone, I am so lucky to be your Mommy. You make me so proud.
  • Simones preschool teachers. They are the best and so loving.
  • My PE Helpers at school. They are such a big help and such great kids.
  • Kimi and Becca for going to the Adoption Seminar with me.

Thankful

Thankful
I have been reading two great
blogs for a while called 3 Peanuts and First a Pearl, then a Ruby
These two ladies do some thing that has really inspired me.
Every Thursday they do a "Thankful Thursday" list. It has inspired me to do my own. I like the idea of it since I enjoy blogging. The reason I like to blog is because it is a neat way to share photos and stories with family and friends.
I am more likely to blog thank write in a journal.

I am going to call mine Thankful because I am not sure if I can commit to doing it every week although I am going to try. I love their idea, a time to reflect and be thankful!

So here goes. This week I am thankful for:

  • My husband because I have been so busy this week and he is such a big help. He came to my school to help me set up for this weeks lesson. He brought Simone to me after school today so I could take her with me to one of my teaching partners Bridal shower and then met me back at my school to pick her up so I could teach organized games to child care providers from our school district. I am so thankful for my husband.
  • That Simone is starting to feel so much better and her antibiotics are working. Her nasty caught is going away!
  • The time that Rachel and I spent together at the mall.
  • I get to go to see a lady speak tomorrow about her experiences in China and about her adoption. She is some how involved with a book called Baby in a Box. I will find out more tomorrow. Thankful that my friends Kimi and Becca are going with me.
  • My Mom is having a blat visiting my Brother, Sister In Law, Niece and Nephew in Chicago.
  • The patience to take a deep breath when I feel so over whelmed with things.
  • My friend Jeni who helped me out this week two times. You rock.
  • Veterans every where. Especially My Dad (Marine), My Grandpa Scott (Marine), My Grandpa Smith (Army), My Uncle Terry (Army), My Cousin Shanna (Army and currently in Iraq.), Our Good Friend Mike (Coast Guard in charge in Oregon), Our Good Friend Tom (Army). Thankful that all that you do and have done!
  • I am healthy.
  • I have a job to go to every day.
  • My Family.
  • My friends.
  • Living Life.

Maybe this has inspired you to make your own list??

I am hoping to get caught back up with my blogging soon. I purchased an external hard drive since my computer can no longer hold all of my photos. I just need to figure it out. These photos of Simone were taken last week.

Have a great FRIDAY everyone.
